Huawei has filed a new application for the Chinese trademark “Xingmang,” according to records from China’s trademark office reported on October 12. The application, numbered 93069405, is awaiting substantive examination and covers Class 9 products including smartphones, laptops, smartwatches, smart glasses, headphones and integrated-circuit chips. Huawei’s earliest application for the name dates to April 2019. The latest filing has renewed speculation about a Huawei phone sub-brand, following September reports that the company was preparing a new online-focused smartphone brand that could debut in November. Those earlier reports used the name “Xingyao”; Huawei has not announced a sub-brand launch under either name. [IT Home, in Chinese]
