tributary.music uses artists' own accounts & critics' writing to determine an artist's influences. It pairs one song from the artist with one from the influence so you can directly hear similarities, differences, and how the sound evolved.I had been in a bit of a funk finding new music to listen to. Spotify's Discover Weekly lost its charm for me a while ago. This led me to start digging into the influences of some of my favorite artists to see if I'd like their music too. I did. I then wanted to scale that so it wasn't so much manual work. Claude & ChatGPT did most of the heavy lifting around finding & summarizing articles and influences. I found the result compelling so I wanted to publish and share it.I've now found a few new artists in my rotation. I can't believe I never listened to Kraftwerk! I found them via MGMT -> Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark -> Kraftwerk.I hope you can find some interesting music too. Comments URL: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=50225727 Points: 1
