Pick a destination, like your office, see everywhere you could leave from to arrive at 9AM.I built this site to help people understand what neighborhoods they could live in and still reach the office within various commute times because I didn't have a good understanding of what the "supercommuter" transit options looked like in the outer boroughs and New Jersey.There are some sites that let you compute isochrones, but they work in the forward direction. You set an origin and they compute where you can travel to in increments of 15 minutes or so. This site does the reverse. You set a destination to see what areas you can start out from and reach that destination within a certain amount of time.The tools I tried also either lack many transit operators besides the MTA subways or only compute out to 45- or 60-minute commutes. This is fine if you're just looking to move apartments, but not if you're looking for a home in the suburbs. This site also lets you compute up to 90- or even 120-minute commutes.Operators include subway and MTA buses, LIRR, Metro-North, PATH, NJ Transit rail and bus, Amtrak, NYC Ferry, Staten Island Ferry, NY Waterway, Seastreak, Academy, Coach, NICE, Bee-Line, and Hudson Valley and Long Island county systems.There's no backend. This site is entirely static files served from Cloudflare. It comes with a routing engine compiled to WASM, running in a Web Worker. The map is computed backwards from the destination using a combination of OSM and GTFS data. GTFS data is built for operators that don't have any, like Seastreak, by scraping PDFs of schedules.Would love to hear feedback, especially from anyone who's familiar with these regional transit lines!
