Several Canadian provinces and territories recently decided to stay on daylight saving time permanently. As a result, some Google Calendar events created in certain time zones in Canada may appear one hour late on and after November 1, 2026. This article explains which events are affected by the change and how to update them.

Your event may be one hour late if its time zone is in:

Affected events have a warning badge on your calendar grid. When you open an event you organized, you get a banner that allows you to move the event one hour earlier.

In October 2026, Google Calendar will automatically shift most affected events back by one hour to their original scheduled local times. This automatic fix applies to:

After the events move to their original times, your guests will need to RSVP to your event again. To track these time zone corrections across the calendars you manage, you can enable email notifications for changed events. Learn how to change Google Calendar notifications.

Google Calendar won’t be able to update all affected events. If you already corrected an event’s time, it won’t be moved again by Google.

Important: Custom changes to recurring events, like attachments or different guests, can be lost. This happens if you apply time changes to All events or This and following events. To avoid this issue, follow these steps.

Tip: After you update an event, check that it has a conference room and attendees have no scheduling conflicts for the new time.

If you are an invited guest to a meeting, or have a shared calendar, how you should handle the time change depends on the organizer:

As a result of these changes, room conflicts are likely to occur when your events shift. For example:

When you update an event’s time, the booked room is released, and Google Calendar attempts to rebook it automatically for the new time. If you organized the event, you get an email when a room declines an event. After you update the time, check that your conference room is still accepted and available. Learn more about why a room might decline an event.
