One question comes up again and again when I speak with founders: How do I actually get in front of investors?
In South Africa, a lot of those conversations still start with people. A warm introduction from someone trusted in the ecosystem can often open a door that a cold email will not.
That made me curious about the people and communities behind those introductions. Not just the obvious investor networks, but also the connectors behind the scenes: founder groups, pitch events, angel communities, private dinners, industry networks, and even the early morning Lion's Head hikes where relationships are built over time.
I pulled that research together into a 10-page founder-to-investor map covering 26 connectors across Cape Town, Johannesburg, and beyond. It includes what each person or group does and how founders can find or reach them.
I’m sharing it for free. If it helps you understand the ecosystem better, find the right conversation, or eventually land an introduction, I’d genuinely like to hear about it.
And a thank you to the people and communities on the list who keep making introductions, creating opportunities, and helping founders get a foot in the door.
This is the first in a country-by-country Founder to Investor series, looking beyond investor lists to the people and networks that actually make startup ecosystems work. If you are building, investing, or connecting founders in another market, I’d be interested to hear what makes your ecosystem work.
